GNYHC Havanese A-Match and Fun Day

GNYHC's second Plan-A match was held at Doggy U K-9 on May 24, 2009. Judge Toby Frisch had a wonderful showing of dogs to go over. After the match, a special entry of Havanese entered the ring for the purpose of exhibition. Retired and veteran dogs were entered in that class. After our club meeting the pups had a long free-play period. During that time, Pat Ross demonstrated how to make non-sew dog toys and Marie Fiore and Pat showed people how to line-brush their Havanese. We hope all of you had a wonderful time! What a line-up of beautiful dogs! Many thanks to the exhibitors and Judges, Ms. Beth Sweigart and Mrs. June Penta. The event went off seamlessly due to the efforts of our dedicated show committee. Thank you, Pat Ross, for your wisdom and expertise. On exhibit was the wonderful wall hanging made by Pat Limburgh for the HRI quilt raffle and dedicated in memory Rosalie Leone. Our first regional specialty was in honor of Rosalie. Thanks to Linda Okimoto, the winner of the quilt, we were able to place the beautiful piece on exhibit. Finally, all of us send our thanks and gratitude to the HCA for entrusting our club with permission to hold the event. Thank you, Linda Strike, for your mentoring. Going forward, our club hopes to continue to contribute to the events held in NY during Westminster weekend.
P.S. We all had a great time at the restaurant, Cuba, later that evening. ;-)

StartFragmentGreater New York Havanese Club Represents the Havanese Breed at the AKC Meet The Breeds Event in New York City
The Greater New York Havanese Club was honored to be asked by the HCA to represent the Havanese breed at the AKC Meet The Breeds Event held at the Javits Center in New York City on October 17 and 18, 2009. More than 35,000 spectators attended the premier event showcasing 160 breeds of dogs and 41 breeds of cats.
First and foremost in our minds was the importance of getting our dogs out to meet the public. Our friendly, playful ambassadors were there in all their glory, greeting the masses, allowing themselves to be petted by young and old and even permitting some very gentle children to brush them. The highlight of our showcase was our Havanese Kissing Booth, complete with large renderings of the national bird of Cuba, curtains and matching pillow. The public was smitten! We were even able to entice TV star, Mario Lopez, into coming to our booth to get kissed by a Havanese, each a Latin lover! Mario was filmed discussing Havanese with David Frei from the Westminster Kennel Club.
We found the public to be inquisitive, appreciative and thoughtful in their questions. Many people who stopped by already had a Havanese and just wanted to find out more information. Other folks were strongly considering a Havanese and wanted to investigate and find a reputable breeder. Many wanted to learn more about Havanese rescue and how they could go about adopting a Havanese.
We’ve already started to think about what we’ll do for next year’s event!
